2015-16 Budget Update: A Call for Action
On Thursday, February 11th, Burley's LSC met to discuss the latest round of CPS budget cuts and approve the necessary adjustments to our school budget. Burley lost approximately 3.5% of our budget. Due to the strong fiscal stewardship of our administration, we are able to cover these budget cuts while maintaining all staffing positions this year.
While foresight and careful planning has prevented disruption in our school from the latest round of budget cuts, this model of "saving for a rainy day" is by no means sustainable. The financial crisis facing public schools in Chicago is real and simply cannot be ignored. The State of Illinois and CPS must fund public schools so that all of our students receive the best education possible.
As parents and taxpayers, we must let our voices be heard.
Ready to take action? Please consider calling or emailing your Alderman, State Senator, State Representative, the Governor and/or the Mayor to let them know public education matters to you. Download a copy of our 5-Minute Advocacy flyer here:
